13 Worked example 7 — how many fragments?
- A lagging strand is built from 6 Okazaki fragments.
- How many primers and ligations are needed on that strand?
- Each fragment needs its own primer (6 primers).
- After the primers are replaced by DNA, ligase joins 6 fragments by 5 joints.
- (The leading strand needs only one primer at the origin.)
