Point 3 of 8 — Lesson 3: Quantitative Chemical Analysis – Volumetric and Gravimetric MethodsQuestion bank: 1 questions (1 with pictures)
03 Procedure (NaOH titrated with HCl)
Transfer a measured volume (e.g. 25 mL) of the alkali to a conical flask with a pipette; add two drops of indicator (methyl orange or phenolphthalein); fill the burette with the standard 0.1 M acid; add the acid gradually, swirling the flask, in small quantities until the alkali has been completely neutralized as shown by the change in the colour of the indicator.
Read the volume used.
A good result needs: a clean burette rinsed with the acid, a pipette rinsed with the alkali, adding the acid drop by drop near the end point, and repeating the titration until two readings agree.
