Point 22 of 27 — Module 3 — Physical Properties of Water: Density, Specific Heat and Latent HeatQuestion bank: 0 questions (0 with pictures)
22 7.2 Why is it high for water?
To vaporise water, the molecules must completely separate from one another, so the hydrogen bonds between them must be broken; that requires a very large amount of energy.
The energy does not raise the temperature (it goes into overcoming attractions), hence "latent" (hidden).
