14 Activity 2 — Discussing real case studies
Objective. Understand real applications of techniques to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change.
- Steps. Select a case (for example the recovery of the ozone layer after the Montreal Protocol, smog control in a big city, the acid-rain programme in Europe and North America that cut SO₂ emissions by installing scrubbers, or the Great Barrier Reef bleaching forecast).
- Read the study, extract the key points (problem, causes, actions, results, costs), then discuss in a group how the solutions were applied and how they could be improved or applied in Egypt (for example, controlling the autumn "black cloud" of agricultural-waste burning; improving brick kilns; renewable energy).
