02Second: the water problem has a political dimension
Water is one of the most important economic problems with a political dimension.
It appears between states in two cases:
whenterritorial and international waters are delimited on seas and oceans;
when the water of aninternational river is used and divided between the states sharing it.
Example of a sea dispute: the conflict betweenLibya and Tunisia over the maritime shelf after gas and oil appeared there — settled by theInternational Court of Justice.
In narrow straits disputes arise between the states facing each other, such as the Strait of Hormuz between Oman and Iran.
