The Normal Distribution and Its Applications

Real-life applications and reversed problems

Real-life applications and reversed problems

  • Normal distribution problems are used to find the proportion of people whose heights exceed a certain limit, the proportion of products that meet a specification, or the proportion of students whose scores fall in a certain range.
  • The percentage is the probability multiplied by 100%.
  • Sometimes the question is reversed we are given a probability and must find the value. We look up the z-value that corresponds to the probability in the table, and then convert back to the original variable using X = μ + zσ.
