Harmful microbes and how to prevent them

Harmful microbes and how to prevent them

Microbe Disease it causes How it spreads
Cholera bacterium Cholera (severe diarrhoea) Contaminated water and food
Influenza virus Flu and colds Droplets from coughing and sneezing
Plasmodium (a protozoan) Malaria Anopheles mosquito bite
Athlete’s foot fungus Skin infection between the toes Walking barefoot in damp places
  • To prevent harmful microbes we should wash our hands with soap and water, boil drinking water when its purity is doubtful, cool and cover food, get vaccinated against infectious diseases, and use antibiotics only under a doctor’s supervision.
  • Antibiotics kill bacteria but do not affect viruses.
