Congruence

Congruence cases for two triangles

Congruence cases for two triangles

  • Two triangles are congruent if one of the following holds:
Case Given
Side, Side, Side (SSS) The three sides of one triangle equal the corresponding three sides of the other
Side, Angle, Side (SAS) Two sides and the included angle between them are equal
Angle, Side, Angle (ASA) Two angles and the side included between them are equal
Angle, Angle, Side (AAS)
  • Two angles and a non-included side are equal. The third angle is then equal too
  • so the case reduces to ASA
Note→the included angle is the angle between the two given sides. Equal sides and an angle that is not between them are not enough.
