The sample space (S) is the set of all possible outcomes of a random experiment.
An event is a subset of S.
When all outcomes are equally likely, the probability of an event is:
P(A) = number of outcomes in A ÷ number of outcomes in S
We use the union A ∪ B (at least one of the events occurs), the intersection A ∩ B (both events occur together) and the complement A′ (A does not occur).
The addition rule is P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B) − P(A ∩ B).
