Common mistakes
- Believing that the Sun goes around the Earth. It is the Earth that goes around the Sun.
- Believing that the seasons happen because the Earth moves closer to and farther from the Sun. The main cause is the tilt of the Earth’s axis.
- Confusing the Earth’s rotation on its axis (day and night) with its revolution around the Sun (the year).
- Believing that planets shine with their own light. Planets reflect sunlight; stars are the bodies that produce their own light.
