The mean of a frequency table

The mean of a frequency table

  1. If the data are given in a frequency table
  2. the mean = sum of (value × frequency) ÷ sum of the frequencies. That is:

Mean = Σ(x × f) ÷ Σf

  1. where x is the value
  2. f is its frequency
  3. and Σ means “the sum of”.
