Lines and Planes in Space

Determining a plane

Determining a plane

  • A plane is a flat surface extending indefinitely. It is determined by any one of the following:
  • Three points that are not on one straight line.
  • A straight line and a point not on it.
  • Two intersecting straight lines.
  • Two parallel straight lines that are not coincident.
  • Any straight line lying in a plane meets any other plane either in a single straight line, or is parallel to it, unless the two planes coincide.
