Sets and Operations on Sets
Explanation
Lesson summary
Lesson summary
A set is a well-defined collection written between braces { }. The order of its elements does not matter.
The symbol ∈ means membership, ⊆ means subset, and the empty set ∅ is a subset of every set.
The union ∪ collects all elements, the intersection ∩ takes the common ones, and A − B takes the elements of A only.
The complement A′ is what lies in the universal set U but not in A.
n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(A ∩ B).
