The linear equation
The linear equation
An equation states that two expressions are equal, and at least one of them contains a variable.
A linear equation of the first degree in one variable has the form ax + b = c, where a ≠ 0, and it has exactly one solution.
A solution of an equation is the number that makes the two sides equal when it replaces the variable.
The number 4 is a solution of 2x + 1 = 9, because 2 × 4 + 1 = 9.
