Medians of a Triangle

The area property

The area property

  • A median divides a triangle into two smaller triangles with equal areas.
  • They have the same height from the common vertex, and their bases are equal because the median meets the opposite side at its midpoint.
  • If the triangle has area 36 cm2, each smaller triangle has area 18 cm2.
