Ratio and Proportion
Explanation
Solving proportion equations
Solving proportion equations
When a proportion contains an unknown
we use the rule of extremes and means and
solve the resulting equation in the usual way.
Write the product of the extremes equal to the product of the means.
Isolate the unknown by dividing both sides by the number that multiplies it.
Check the answer by substituting it back into the original proportion.
