Explanation
Lesson summary
Lesson summary
A ratio compares two quantities of the same kind and the same unit. It is simplified by dividing both terms by a common factor.
A proportion is an equality of two ratios. It holds when the product of the extremes equals the product of the means.
The mean proportional b between a and c satisfies b² = a × c.
Proportions are used to find an unknown after the quantities are written in one unit.
