Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
Matter exists in three main states: the solid state, the liquid state and the gas state.
The difference between these states depends on three things: how the particles are arranged, how they move, and how strongly they attract each other.
To explain the properties of matter we use the particle model.
This model assumes that matter is made of very small particles (molecules, atoms or ions), that these particles are always moving, and that there are attractive forces between them whose strength depends on the state.
