Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles of a substance. When the temperature rises, the average kinetic energy of the particles increases, and the reverse is also true.
Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius (°C). In scientific calculations we also use the kelvin scale (K), with the relation:
T (K) = t (°C) + 273

Temperature does not depend on the number of particles.
A small cup of boiling water has the same temperature as a large pot of boiling water.
