Heat Transfer

Radiation

Radiation

Radiation→is the transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves. It does not need a material medium, so the heat of the Sun reaches the Earth across the empty space between them.
  • Dark and rough surfaces absorb more radiation.
  • Shiny and silver surfaces reflect most of the radiation, which is why some devices are coated with a shiny metal.
  • This also explains why people often wear light-coloured clothes in summer: they absorb less radiation than dark clothes.
