Where it happens and the role of chlorophyll
Photosynthesis takes place in the green chloroplasts inside the cells of the leaf, especially the cells of the middle tissue (mesophyll).
The chloroplasts contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy, mainly red and blue light.
It reflects green light, which is why leaves look green.
Gases enter and leave the leaf through the stomata, which are small openings in the leaf surface.
Carbon dioxide enters through the stomata and oxygen leaves through them.
Water moves from the roots to the leaves through the xylem vessels.
