Lesson summary
Photosynthesis is the process by which a plant makes glucose using sunlight and chlorophyll.
Its equation is 6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂.
It takes place in the chloroplasts. The oxygen released comes from the splitting of water.
Its rate depends on light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration, temperature and the amount of chlorophyll.
Photosynthesis is the basis of food on Earth and the source of the oxygen we breathe.
