Lesson summary
A force is an action that changes, or tends to change, the state of rest or motion of a body.
A force is a vector quantity, specified by its magnitude, direction and point of application.
The unit of force is the newton N, where 1 N = 1 kg × 1 m/s².
Weight W = m × g, and it acts vertically downwards.
A force is drawn as an arrow, and a force diagram shows all the forces acting on a body.
