Volume of the Right Pyramid and Cone

Volume of a pyramid

Volume of a pyramid

  • The volume of a pyramid is one third of the volume of the prism that has the same base and the same height. Therefore:
  • Volume of a pyramid = ⅓ × area of the base × height
  • For a triangular base, this can be seen by dividing a triangular prism of the same base and height into three pyramids of equal volume.
  • The height used in the volume rule is the perpendicular height h, not the slant height l.
  • The unit of volume is a cubic unit of length, such as cm³ or m³.
