Organizing Data

Common mistakes

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that the total of the frequencies equals the number of data values. If the total does not match, count again.
  • Putting the value 150 into two classes. The class 140 – less than 150 does not include 150.
  • Confusing frequency with relative frequency. Frequency is a number, while relative frequency is a fraction.
  • Counting tally marks incorrectly. A complete group of tally marks counts as five.
