Steps for solving equilibrium problems
Steps for solving equilibrium problems
Draw a force diagram of the body and mark all the forces acting on it, including the weight, the tensions and the normal reaction.
Choose two perpendicular axes and decide the positive direction of each.
Resolve each force into its two components.
Write the two equations ΣX = 0 and ΣY = 0.
Solve the equations for the unknowns, then check the answer by substitution.
