Equilibrium of a Rigid Body under Coplanar Forces
Applied Mathematics — Second Secondary
Equilibrium of a Rigid Body under Coplanar Forces
Explanation
Lesson summary
Lesson summary
A body is in equilibrium when it is at rest or moves with constant velocity, and the resultant of the forces on it is zero.
For coplanar concurrent forces, the conditions are ΣX = 0 and ΣY = 0.
Draw the force diagram, resolve the forces into components, write the two equations and solve them.
If three forces alone keep a body in equilibrium, they form a closed triangle when drawn head to tail.
