Applied Mathematics — Second Secondary
Resultant of Coplanar Concurrent Forces
Explanation
Lesson summary
Lesson summary
The resultant of concurrent coplanar forces is a single force with the same effect as the whole set of forces.
Add the horizontal components to get ΣX, and add the vertical components to get ΣY.
Magnitude of the resultant
R = √((ΣX)² + (ΣY)²), and direction: tan θ = ΣY ÷ ΣX.
If ΣX = 0 and ΣY = 0, the resultant is zero.
