Probabilities of events related to the variable
Probabilities of events related to the variable
We find the probability of any event about the variable by adding the probabilities of the values included in it. For example:
P(X ≤ a) = the sum of f(x) for all values x that are less than or equal to a.
P(X ≥ a) = the sum of f(x) for all values x that are greater than or equal to a.
P(a ≤ X < b) = the sum of f(x) for all values x with a ≤ x < b, so b is not included.
It helps to list the values included in the event on a separate line before adding, so that no value is missed or added twice.
